One Day At A Time...

All for His Glory...

It was a crazy day in my world...
got to work at 7:25am - had a parent mtg at 7:35am and the school was dark... mostly. Power failure at 6:18am. I am standing in the lobby of the school an hour after the power failure and we still have school... with no lights.

Absolutely insane... so we begin our day with little power (the emergency generator kicked in - cafeteria, auditorium and several bathrooms have light - minimal light in the hallways and zero light in the classrooms). Parent meeting went well (even in the dark) and then the kids piled into the cafeteria until the admin could figure out the next couple of steps. the decision was made to stay open so we were sent to our rooms and told to have a "normal day."Ha! Normal....we'll see about that.

the kids were nutty...
"It's dark, I can't see."
"My dad doesn't like it when I read or write in the dark, so I'm not allowed to work."
"Are we doing work today?"
"They'll still pay you if you don't teach us."

And so, I tried my best to review with the kids for their upcoming test - and oral review of course. in writing class all the students brought their desks close to the windows and wrote their drafts. In reading class they moved the desks close to the window and worked on flashcards for vocabulary and/or read their independent reading books. It was a crazy day.

So the big question is... do we have school again tomorrow with zero power? who knows?
So I'll wait for a call early in the morning that will tell me whether or not there's school, if kids will be coming or if it's just the staff...

it's the only school in the district without power so they can't call a "snow day."
Does anyone know how long it takes to fix a generator anyway? Apparrently a tree was knocked down into it... is that even possible? who knows...

another crazy day in teacher history.
